USS Sam Nunn (DD- 853) was a Gearing-class destroyer of the United States Navy. It was named after Sam Nunn, a former United States Senator from Georgia who had a long and distinguished career in the Senate. The ship was commissioned in 1945 and served in the Pacific during the final months of World War II. It also saw action during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. USS Sam Nunn was decommissioned in 1976 and was later sold for scrap. Throughout its service, USS Sam Nunn earned 11 battle stars for her contributions in various operations and campaigns.
